Now that we are into the back half of July, Major League Baseball offers up several important series for our betting pleasure this weekend. Here’s a look at some of Friday’s baseball betting action.

In Washington: Stephen Strasburg and the first-place Nationals are listed as -155 favorites for the opener of a series Friday night against the second-place Braves and Tommy Hanson.
In New York: Johan Santana and the Mets, trying to stay relevant in the N.L. playoff races, are -155 favorites for the first game of their series with the Dodgers and Aaron Harang.
In Cleveland: Derek Lowe and the Indians, who are three games out in the A.L. Central, are -135 faves for the opener of their series with the Orioles and Miguel Gonzalez.
In the Motor City: Justin Verlander and the Tigers, who have played themselves into ownership of one of the A.L. wild card spots, are -180 chalk for the first of three with the A.L. Central-leading White Sox and Jake Peavy.
Out in Oakland: Ivan Nova and the Yankees, who are now running away with the AL East, are -135 road favorites for the second game of their series with the A's and Tom Milone.
And down in Anaheim: Jered Weaver and the Angels, owners of the other A.L. wild card slot, are -145 faves for the first game of their showdown series with the Rangers and Derek Holland.
