As surprising as that final score might have been the fact that the A's were +120 underdogs vs. Ricky Romero and the Jays Wednesday.
More surprising is the fact bettors and oddsmakers continue to give Oakland the cold shoulder in World Series odds. They were +5000 at shops such as 5Dimes.eu on Wednesday.
Oakland scored one run in the first inning Wednesday, then eight in the second and just kept adding on from there. With the game well in hand, the A's pulled starter AJ Griffin after six innings of three-hit, nine-strikeout ball.
So Oakland, powered by that unheralded pitching staff that now ranks fourth in the Majors with a 3.33 ERA, is now 16-2 this month and 53-44 overall, and has taken over ownership of one of the American League Wild Card spots.
As the A's go for a sweep in Toronto Thursday afternoon, they're listed as +105 dogs, as Tom Milone pitches against Aaron Laffey.
5Dimes online sportsbook is now listing Oakland at +2200 to win the American League pennant and +5000 to win the World Series.
