Crunch time is here in the MLB playoff races, as September approaches. Here’s a look at some of this weekend’s more important action, and some MLB betting odds for consideration.
Weekend Baseball Odds: Dog Days of August for Contenders


In Cincy the NL Central-leading Reds host the Wild-Card-leading Cardinals for a three-game series starting Friday night. Cincinnati owns a seven-game lead in the Central, and has crept to within two games of the Nationals in the battle for the best record in the National League.
St. Louis, meanwhile, with a three-game winning streak has taken over possession of the second NL Wild-Card spot.
As of Friday morning, the Reds were -130 to win this series, with the Cardinals lined at even-money.
In Detroit the Tigers host the Angels for three games starting Friday night. Detroit is a game and a half out in the AL Central, and tied with the Orioles and A's for the second American League Wild-Card spot.
LA, meanwhile, trails those three teams by two and a half games in the Wild-Card race. As of Friday AM sportsbooks had the Tigers at -155 to win this series, with the Angels getting +125.
In Tampa the Rays and A's continue a three-game series at the Trop. Tampa is now within 2.5 games of the Yankees in the AL East, and owns the top AL Wild-Card slot, while Oakland, as mentioned previously, is tied with the O's and Tigers for the second spot.
For Friday night's game the Rays, who won the opener of this series Thursday night 5-0, are favored by -175 with Matt Moore going against the A's with Jarrod Parker.
Finally, out by the Bay, the Giants and Braves continue a four-game series. San Francisco leads the NL West by three games over the Dodgers, while Atlanta leads the NL Wild-Card race.
The Giants, who took the opener of this series Thursday night 5-2, are -120 favorites with Ryan Vogelsong going against the Braves with Ben Sheets Friday night.
