Through Monday's play Baltimore still trailed New York by 5.5 games, but that lead was nine games not too long ago, and the Yanks are still going to be without Alex Rodriguez for a while.
The O's picked up another game on New York Monday night, as they beat Seattle 3-1 behind Chris Tillman while the Yanks fell to Justin Verlander and Detroit 7-2.
In other playoff race-related action Monday night, Pittsburgh pulled to within 3.5 games of Cincinnati in the NL Central, as the Pirates with Erik Bedard shut out Arizona 4-0 while the Reds lost to Yovani Gallardo and Milwaukee 6-3. And the Angels pulled back to within five games of first-place Texas in the AL West, as they defeated Oakland 4-0 behind Jered Weaver while the Rangers and Yu Darvish lost 9-2 at Boston.
As for Tuesday the Pirates with Jeff Karstens are -125 favorites over the D'Backs with Patrick Corbin; Cincy with Johnny Cueto is a -110 favorite at Milwaukee with Mike Fiers; the Orioles with Zach Britton are -125 faves over the Mariners with Blake Beavan; the Yanks with Phil Hughes are -110 chalk at the Tigers with Rick Porcello; the Rangers with Ryan Dempster are +105 dogs at the Red Sox with Jon Lester; and the Angels with CJ Wilson are -135 road favorites at the A's with Bartolo Colon.
