Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Josh Johnson underwent elbow surgery to remove bone spurs Tuesday morning, reports MLB Trade Rumors.
Josh Johnson has elbow surgery, will be ready for Spring Training
Johnson will be a free agent following the conclusion of the 2013 season for the first time in his career.

Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery, said that he believes the spurs were the cause of Johnson's struggles in 2013. Johnson made 16 starts after being acquired from the Marlins, posting a 6.20 ERA and 1.66 WHIP.
Johnson should be able to throw again in around five weeks after no tendon damage was found. That’s good news for Johnson, who is set to become a free agent this offseason. He is expected to be fully healthy and ready to pitch by spring training, which will make him more appealing to potential suitors.
It has been an injury plagued year for Johnson. In addition to the bone spurs, he has also missed time due to a forearm strain, knee tendinitis, and a triceps injury. Given his injury history and poor play in 2013, Johnson will be an interesting free agent to keep an eye on.
