MLB Trade rumors: Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez staying put

Owner Dick Monfort says he will not trade either player in the offseason despite two straight last place finishes.

The Colorado Rockies are not planning on trading either shortstop Troy Tulowitzki or outfielder Carlos Gonzalez in the offseason, reports the Denver Post.

Team owner Dick Monfort says that he has no intention of letting his star players leave anytime soon whether it is the “smart” move or not. Though the Rockies have finished last in the NL West the past two seasons, any potential rebuild would revolve around the two All Stars staying with the team, not being traded for prospects.

“The plan is to keep them. Next year, yes. And my plan is to always keep them,” Monfort told the Post. “Is that the smartest thing in the world to do? I don’t know. But for our fans I think it’s the best thing to do.”

Tulowitzki, 29, is widely regarded as the best shortstop in the MLB. He played in 126 games in 2013, hitting .312/.391/.540 with 25 home runs.

Gonzalez would have led the National League with a .958 OPS had he qualified, but a finger injury kept him from hitting the last two months of the season.

Both players are signed with Colorado long-term. Gonzalez is owed another $63.5 million through 2017 while Tulowitzki will see an additional $130 million through 2020 with a team option for 2021.
