The Cincinnati Reds top choice to fill their vacant managerial position is rumored to be former Nationals skipper Jim Riggleman, reports the MLB Network's Peter Gammons.

The Reds have already confirmed they would interview Riggleman, who has managed in the teams’ minor league system the past two seasons.

Riggleman has spent parts of 12 seasons managing in the majors, beginning in 1992 with the Padres. His longest stint at the helm of a team was from 1995-99 when he led the Chicago Cubs to a .472 record. Most recently, Riggleman managed the Nationals from 2009-11 as the team worked it's way up to respectability.

In his final year with Washington, Riggleman led the team to a 38-37 record but resigned part way through the season when the team refused to discuss a contract extension.

Riggleman and Reds general manager Walt Jocketty have worked together in the past, with Riggleman working as minor league field coordinator for the Cardinals when Jocketty was GM in St. Louis. Riggleman, who has shown a penchant for advanced statistics, would be a big change from the old school tactics of former manager Dusty Baker.

Overall, Riggleman has a 662-824 record as a manager in the MLB.
