Hanley Ramirez injury: Dodgers SS could have cracked ribs

Ramirez had x-rays taken at a hospital, but will have a CT scan Sunday.

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez had x-rays done on his ribcage Saturday night with the results coming back negative, according to the team's official Twitter page.

Ramirez was diagnosed with a bad bruise. He still believes something is cracked and will have a CT scan Sunday. Whether he will be able to play in Game 3 on Monday remains to be seen. The injury stems from being hit by a Joe Kelly fastball in Game 1 of the NLCS.

The Dodgers originally had Ramirez in their lineup for Game 2 on Saturday despite some soreness in his ribs. The team scratched him prior to the start of the game, however, and he was taken to a hospital where he received his x-rays.

Due to a number of injuries, Ramirez played in just 86 games during the regular season and rarely played multiple days in a row toward the end of the year. When he was in the lineup, he was arguably the Dodgers’ best hitter, though, posting a 1.040 OPS with 20 home runs. The Dodgers could have used his bat in Game 2, as the Cardinals shut them out.

Ramirez had started all five of the Dodgers’ playoff games up until Saturday. He has collected eight hits and five walks in 24 plate appearances. This is his first time playing in the postseason.
