The Pittsburgh Pirates have shut down top pitching prospect James Taillon in the Arizona Fall League due to a groin injury, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The injury was sustained Oct. 8 when Taillon tossed two innings in Scottsdale’s opening game and saw a doctor Monday. Assistant general manager Kyle Stark said Taillon would be ready to go for spring training. Though the injury is not believed to be serious, Pittsburgh won’t have Taillon pitch again in the offseason.
Taillon, 21, tossed his third professional season in 2013 after being made the second overall selection of the 2010 draft by the Pirates. He made 25 starts and one relief appearance between Double- and Triple-A, posting a 3.73 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.
At mid-season, Baseball America ranked Taillon the 11th best prospect and third best pitching prospect in all of baseball. John Sickels named him the second best prospect in the Pirates' system prior to 2013, with only Gerrit Cole ahead of him. Cole made 19 starts for the Pirates in his rookie 2013 season, helping the team make the postseason.
Taillon has been relatively injury-free over his career to date.
