Cardinals vs. Dodgers score update, NLCS Game 4: 3-0 Cardinals, Top 5

The Dodgers don’t convert on a scoring opportunity in the second inning, but the Cardinals take advantage in the third.

Ricky Nolasco, who failed to convert on a bases-loaded opportunity in the second inning, promptly surrendered a single to Daniel Descalso to lead off the top of the third inning. Descalso advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cardinals starter Lance Lynn, then chugged home on a Matt Carpenter double, putting St. Louis up, 1-0.

Dodgers second baseman Mark Ellis might have saved the Dodgers a run by stabbing a Carlos Beltran grounder, which advanced Carpenter to third, as Matt Holliday promptly followed the groundout with a two-run homer, giving the Red Birds a 3-0 lead. Nolasco escaped further damage in the third inning by getting Matt Adams to strike out.

Lance Lynn made quick work of the Dodgers in the bottom half of the inning, dispatching the top of LA’s lineup in order.
