NLCS Game 4 score update: Dodgers strike back, cut Cardinals’ lead to 3-2 after 5

The Dodgers got to Lance Lynn in the fourth inning and now trail by just one run.

Despite giving up three runs in the third, the Dodgers have roared back to stay in the ballgame, cutting the Cardinals' lead to 3-2 after five innings in Game 4 of the NLCS.

Yasiel Puig struck back in the best way possible after nearly being plunked. Cardinals starting pitcher Lance Lynn threw some chin music to Puig in the fourth inning after Adrian Gonzalez led off with a double and Andre Ethier walked. Presumably, the high heat was for Puig's theatrics in Game 3. Five pitches later, Puig singled up the middle to drive in the Dodgers' first run.

Two batters later, A.J. Ellis hit a line-drive single to score Ethier and cut the lead to one. Former Cardinal Skip Schumaker ended the rally by grounding into a double play.

Schumaker pinch-hit for Nolasco, taking the Dodgers' starter out of the game early. He finished with three runs allowed in four innings, striking out four Cardinals hitters on 58 pitches. Chris Withrow came on for the fifth inning and allowed a walk to Lance Lynn, then allowed Lynn to reach third on a wild pitch and a balk. Withrow then walked Carlos Beltran to put runners on the corners with two outs before Matt Holliday grounded out to end the threat.

Cardinals starter Lance Lynn may not be long for this game, either. He already saw a mound visit in the middle of the Dodgers’ big fourth inning and the Cardinals will likely be ready to pull him at the first sign of trouble. He allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth, but worked out of it easily enough. Lynn has thrown 78 pitches.
