Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Mat Latos underwent arthroscopic surgery on Oct. 11 to remove bone chips from his right elbow, reports Lance McAlister of ESPN 1530.
Mat Latos injury: Reds P undergoes arthroscopic surgery
Latos is expected to be healthy in time for spring training next year.

Such a procedure is fairly commonplace for baseball players and does not take a great deal of time to recover from. As such, Latos will be healthy and ready to pitch well before the beginning of spring training.
The surgery explains why Latos could not pitch in the National League Wild Card game against the Pirates. He had been suffering soreness for about a week beforehand and was replaced by Johnny Cueto. Unfortunately for the Reds, Cueto ended up allowing four runs in 3⅓ innings.
Latos, 25, posted a 3.16 ERA and 1.21 ERA in 2013 and remains under team control for two more seasons.
