NLCS Game 5, Cardinals vs. Dodgers GIF recap: L.A. uses homers to send series back to St. Louis

The Dodgers stayed alive in the NLCS with the help of a bunch of home runs and a big double play.

The Los Angeles Dodgers needed their big sticks on Wednesday to fend off the St. Louis Cardinals and cut their deficit to 3-2 in the National League Championship Series.

The Cardinals outhit the Dodgers, but couldn’t come up with a situational knock to save their lives. That was no more evident than in the first inning, when a bases-loaded opportunity was squandered:

The Dodgers didn't waste much time making the Cardinals pay for failing to get a run home, sending two runners across the plate in the bottom of the second. However, Carlos Beltran did his thing to get the Cards going in the third.

Beltran's hit plated Matt Carpenter, and Matt Holliday followed with a double to score Beltran. Suddenly, it was a tie game in L.A.

That is, until Adrian Gonzalez stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the third and did this:

He wears Mickey Mouse shirts and does Mickey Mouse things. For real, though:

Gonzalez’s blast was the start of the theme of the day for the Dodgers. Carl Crawford followed suit with a long ball ...

... as did Mark Ellis:

Gonzalez added one more home run, a solo shot off of John Axford in the eighth, to give the Dodgers a four-run lead. St. Louis countered with two in the top of the ninth against Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen and had a shot at more, but Adron Chambers struck out looking to end the game.

Oh, and what's a Dodgers GIF recap without Yasiel Puig?

Game 6 is slated for Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
