World Series 2013: Clay Buchholz will start Game 3 or 4

There had been some concerns that Buchholz would be removed from the rotation or that he had re-injured himself following a mediocre string of postseason starts.

The Red Sox expect Clay Buchholz to start either Game 3 or Game 4 of the World Series against the Cardinals, reports the Boston Herald. Jake Peavy will pitch the game he does not start.

There had been some questions as to Buchholz’s status for the series after he was pulled from his ALCS Game 5 start after throwing just 85 pitches. He also has not looked particularly effective in the postseason, allowing 10 runs in 16⅔ innings.

Buchholz missed three months of the season due to a shoulder injury, leading some to wonder if he had re-injured himself. Following Buchholz's start in Game 5, Boston had reliever Felix Doubront work three innings in a simulated game to stretch out in case he was needed as a starter.

Manager John Farrell says the team will keep the same roster as they had in the ALCS, meaning Buchholz will stick with the team. Farrell also said he fully expects Buchholz to pitch in one of the weekend games.

Jon Lester is starting Game 1 for the Red Sox. The World Series begins Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 8:07 pm ET.
