The Boston Red Sox have taken advantage of multiple miscues and hold a 5-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals through two innings in Game 1 of the 2013 World Series.

The Cardinals have hardly looked like themselves through two innings of the World Series opener, and the Red Sox have taken advantage.
After Cardinals shortstop Pete Kozma dropped a throw from second baseman Matt Carpenter on the front half of a potential inning-ending double play in the bottom of the first, Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli drove a 2-0 cutter from Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright into the left-center field gap for a bases-clearing double.
St. Louis made another pair of atypical miscues in the second inning when Wainwright and Yadier Molina allowed a pop up off the bat of Stephen Drew to drop between them in front of the mound. The play was scored as a single. Three batters later, Kozma failed to field a grounder off the bat of Shane Victorino, loading the bases for Dustin Pedroia, who singled to score Boston's fourth run.
David Ortiz nearly hit a grand slam in the next at-bat, but Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran extended his glove over the short right-field wall and made the catch. Ortiz settled for a sacrifice fly, giving the Sox a 5-0 advantage.
Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday had the first hit of the 2013 World Series on a ground-ball single to center field with two outs in the top of the first inning. Holliday is the only player to reach base against Red Sox starter Jon Lester, who has three strikeouts through two scoreless innings.
