Ortiz lifted a 1-2 offering from Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright into deep right. The ball clearly went over the wall, but Beltran's tremendous effort resulted in a sacrifice fly, and not a grand slam, for Ortiz.
Beltran’s catch is the lone bright spot in what has been a poor defensive showing by the Cardinals thus far.
Update: After the inning Beltran was removed from the game with a right rib contusion.
