St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran left in the third inning of Game 1 of the World Series with a severe right rib bruise. He was taken to a local hospital in Boston during the game, where X-rays and a CT scan were negative, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. Cardinals general manager John Mozielak told reporters that Beltran is day to day.

The Cardinals, already down big early to the Red Sox in Game 1, received a huge blow when Beltran collided into the wall while robbing a home run from David Ortiz.
Beltran, playing in his first game in right field at Fenway Park, collided with the wall while robbing Red Sox designated David Ortiz of a grand slam in the bottom of the second inning. The catch allowed the Cardinals to stay within five runs of the Red Sox rather than face an 8-0 deficit.
Beltran struck out in his lone at-bat on Wednesday but owns a .256/.383/.538 line in 47 plate appearances this postseason. His career .724 slugging percentage in playoff games ranks third-highest in Major League Baseball history.
He was replaced in the lineup by Jon Jay, who was inserted in center field with Shane Robinson moving to Beltran's spot in right field.
