Miguel Cabrera named The Sporting News Player of the Year
Cabrera wins The Sporting News award for the second straight season.

Cabrera followed his Triple Crown winning season with an arguably more impressive campaign, batting .348/.442/.636 with 44 home runs and 137 RBI. He compiled his incredible numbers despite dealing with a number of injuries, which limited him to a .278 batting average and .333 slugging percentage during the final month of the year.
The third baseman's slow finish opened the field up for a few more candidates, including Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles and Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels. Davis hit .286/.370/.634, leading the league with 53 home runs and 138 RBI. Trout batted .323/.423/.557, leading MLB with 10.4 WAR.
The Sporting News polled 186 current major league players to determine the award winner. TSN awards have served as a strong bellwether for the BBWAA awards that will be released after the World Series; TSN Player of the Year has been named MVP of his respective league every season since 2006.
