The Chicago Cubs have spoken to Eric Wedge about their vacant managerial position, and will conduct an interview with Wedge next week, reports Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune and confirmed by Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Wedge managed the Seattle Mariners for the past three seasons, compiling a 213-273 record. He missed one month during 2013 after suffering a mild stroke. Wedge also managed the Cleveland Indians from 2003-2009, going 561-573 and winning AL Manager of the Year in 2007.
The Cubs continue to move deliberately in their process to replace Dale Sveum. Peter Gammons told 670 The Score that the club has interview six candidates at least twice.
Chicago plans to interview Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo, and are not expected to announce a new hire until after the World Series. Rick Renteria is reportedly the favorite of the candiates that have been interviewed, which include Dave Martinez, A.J. Hinch and Manny Acta.
