MLB rumors roundup: Napoli expected to receive multi-year deal, Rockies will listen to offers for Fowler

Taking a look at some of the latest rumors involving players who may switch teams during the offseason.

The World Series is still ongoing, but many teams are starting to gear up for the offseason, hoping to improve their respective clubs and find themselves still alive at this point next season. Let's take a look at some of the latest rumors involving players possibly on the move during the winter:

Napoli expected to receive multi-year deal

Boston Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli is expected to receive a mutli-year deal from a team during the offseason, reports Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Cafardo talked with a GM about Napoli, who told the reporter:

“If the Red Sox don’t tie him up for three years, someone will. He’s a power righthanded bat. If the risk of his hip condition getting worse is minimal, and that’s what everyone would have to find out, the righthanded power bat is pretty enticing.”

Napoli originally signed a three-year, $39 million contract last offseason, but was diagnosed with a degenerative hip issue, which voided his deal. Boston renegotiated his contract to one-year deal, not wanting to take a long-term risk with Napoli’s health issues.

Napoli responded with a strong campaign, batting .259/.360/.482 over 578 plate appearances while playing strong defense. He also alleviated some of the concerns about his health, appearing in 139 games. Napoli is also considered one of the top free agent first basemen left on the market after Jose Abreu signed with the White Sox.

Rockies will entertain offers for Fowler

The Colorado Rockies appear willing to "listen more realistically" to offers for outfielder Dexter Fowler, writes Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

Renck notes that the Rockies’ aggressive pursuit of Abreu marked a significant change for the team, with ownership giving clearance for management to spend more money. That opens up more possibilities for Colorado during the offseason, including a potential deal of Fowler for a more expensive piece.

Fowler played 119 games last season, batting .263/.369/.407 over 492 plate appearances. He spent most of his time in center field, but the Rockies believe Carlos Gonzalez can handle the position, making Fowler expendable. Fowler is due $7.35 million next season, and is scheduled for free agency after the 2015 season.

Angels looking for ‘front-line’ starter for Trumbo

The Los Angeles Angels are willing to listen to offers for Mark Trumbo, but are looking for a "front-line starting pitcher" in return for the slugger, according to Cafardo.

Trumbo spent most of his time at first base in 2013, batting .234/.294/.453 with 34 home runs and 100 RBI over 678 plate appearances. He has also spent time at third base, left field and right field for Los Angeles the past two seasons, but is not considered a skilled defender.

The Angels are coming off a disappointing 78-84 season, missing the playoffs for a fourth straight season despite handing out long-term contracts to Albert Pujols, C.J. Wilson and Josh Hamilton the past two offseasons. Los Angeles starters had the fifth-highest ERA in the AL during 2013 at 4.30.
