Boston Red Sox first baseman David Ortiz got the first in Game 4 of the World Series with an infield single, beating out a throw from Yadier Molina. The previous sentence is somehow not a typo.
David Ortiz shatters bat, gets first hit of the game with infield single
Lance Lynn shattered Ortiz’s bat, but the slugger still reached base with an infield single.

Ortiz led off the top of the second against Lance Lynn, and shattered his bat on the fourth pitch from the starter:
He hit the ball right up the middle, and Lynn stopped the ball with his foot. Molina hustled after the ball and fired the ball to Matt Adams, but not before Ortiz reached first base.
Lynn quickly erased Ortiz, getting Jonny Gomes to ground into a double-play. The first hit, however, may be a sign of more craziness to come in this series.
