2013 World Series Game 4, Red Sox vs. Cardinals score update: St. Louis leads 1-0 through 4

The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the third on a Carlos Beltran single.

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning, and lead the Boston Red Sox 1-0 through four innings.

Lance Lynn had no issues with the bottom third of the Red Sox lineup, sending them down in order. The starter whiffed David Ross and Clay Buchholz for the final two outs of the inning, giving him three strikeouts through nine batters.

The Cardinals scored their first run in the bottom of the third. Buchholz struck out Lynn to start the inning, but Matt Carpenter followed with a single up the middle. Jacoby Ellsbury booted the ball, allowing Carpenter to reach second base:

Carlos Beltran followed with a single up the middle, plating Carpenter for the first run of the game. Buchholz escaped the third without allowing any more damage, retiring Matt Adams and Matt Holliday on flyouts.

Lynn tossed a perfect fourth, finishing the frame with a Dustin Pedroia strikeout, his fourth of the game. Through four innings, Lynn has faced the minimum twelve batters.

Buchholz worked around a one-out walk to Jon Jay and two-out walk to Daniel Descalso, stranding two runners by forcing Lynn to hit into an inning-ending flyout. He received some help from Stephen Drew, who made a nice flip to Pedroia for the second out of the frame:
