Mariners manager search: Seattle interviews Giants bench coach Ron Wotus

Wotus has been in Giants organization for the past 25 years, and served as the bench coach since 1999.

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

The Seattle Mariners have interviewed San Francisco Giants bench coach Ron Wotus for their vacant manager position, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Heyman reported earlier in the month that Wotus was among the candidates to replace Eric Wedge. Rick Renteria, Lloyd McClendon and Chip Hale have also been interviewed for the position.

Wotus, 52, has served as the Giants bench coach since 1999 and been in the organization for the past 25 years. He worked as a minor-league manager for the Giants from 1991 to 1997, and was named the Pacific Coast Manager of the Year in ‘97. Wotus moved to the majors before the 1998 season, serving as the third base coach before shifting to bench coach the following year.

San Francisco interviewed Wotus for their manager vacancy before the 2006 season, eventually settling on Bruce Bochy. The Colorado Rockies considered Wotus for their open manager job last winter before hiring Walt Weiss.
