When the World Series shifted to Busch Stadium in St. Louis, the Cardinals were optimistic that Allen Craig would be able to start a game at first base. However, after re-aggravating the injury in his foot in Game 3, any plans to play Craig in the field in this series have gone out the window, according to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.

Craig missed the final month of the regular season and the first two rounds of the playoffs with a Lisfranc injury in his foot, but returned for the World Series. His foot received a pounding in Game 3 on Saturday, though, when he made a mad dash around the bases to score the winning run in the ninth inning. During the play, he made a hard slide into third base, tripped over Boston defender Will Middlebrooks, and then made a wild slide into home plate before being ruled safe on an obstruction call.
Although first base has been ruled out for Craig, manager Mike Matheny did say that the right-handed batter would be able to serve as the designated hitter when the series returns to Boston on Wednesday, reports Knobler. Matt Adams will start at first base in Game 5.
