Detroit Tigers manager search: Brad Ausmus interviews

The former catcher spent three seasons playing for the Tigers.

The Detroit Tigers have interviewed Brad Ausmus for their managerial vacancy, according to Chris Iott of MLive.com. Ausmus is currently serving as a special assistant to the San Diego Padres, but spent three seasons playing for the Tigers during his playing career. He has no experience as a manager at any professional level, but he served as the skipper for Team Israel in the 2013 World Baseball Classic and is considered to have a good mind for baseball. Iott reports that the interview went well.

Ausmus, a former catcher, also interviewed for the managing position with the Washington Nationals (which eventually went to Matt Williams) and has been mentioned as a candidate for the Chicago Cubs' job.

In addition to Ausmus, the Tigers have also interviewed hitting coach Lloyd McClendon and Dodgers third-base coach Tim Wallach, and are planning to speak with Padres bench coach Rick Renteria.
