World Series: Jake Peavy likely to start for Red Sox in Game 7

If the World Series goes to a Game 7, then Jake Peavy is most likely to get the start for the Boston Red Sox, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. Peavy started Game 3 and would be on track to make the start in a seventh game, but manager John Farrell did note that everyone on the staff would potentially be available, reports Tim Britton of the Providence Journal.

Peavy threw only four innings and 64 pitches in Game 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals before being lifted for a pinch-hitter when the Red Sox mounted a rally in the top of the fifth. He pitched decently, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four batters.

Felix Doubront has also been mentioned as a possibility for Game 7. The left-hander relieved Peavy in Game 3, throwing two scoreless innings, and returned to allow one run in 2⅔ innings in Game 4; he ultimately recorded the win in relief in that second appearance. Doubront made 27 starts during the regular season, and in those starts he posted a 3.87 ERA in 155⅔ innings while striking out 133 batters. He has never made a start in the postseason. While he could be an option to pitch in Game 7, he won't be held out of the next two games to save his arm for that purpose, reports Britton.

Clay Buchholz is also an option to pitch in Game 7, though it would most likely come in relief, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN. Buchholz started Game 4, but threw only 66 pitches in four innings of work.
