Tim Wallach to interview for Mariners manager position

Seattle will talk with Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach on Thursday, per reports.

The Seattle Mariners will interview Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach on Thursday about their open managerial position, sources tell Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times. News of a potential interview was first reported by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Wallach has become something of a hot commodity on the manager market in the past several days. His sit-down with the M's will be his second interview in a week; the former all-star third baseman interviewed to take over for Jim Leyland in Detroit last Friday.

The 56-year-old joins a growing number of manager candidates vying to take over for Eric Wedge in the Emerald City. A trio of bench coaches -- Ron Wotus, Chip Hale and Rick Renteria -- and Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon have already been interviewed by the Mariners, and the club may have several more names on its wish list, as well.

In addition to his several seasons coaching with the Dodgers, Wallach also has some minor-league managing experience under his belt. He won PCL Manager of the Year as the first-year skipper of the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2009, and remained with the club through the 2010 season.
