Josh Reddick injury: Athletics RF undergoes wrist surgery

Reddick is expected to make a full recovery by spring training.

Oakland Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick underwent a successful operation Wednesday morning to remove damaged tissue from his right wrist, the team has announced.

The surgery, termed a TFCC debridement, is not expected to have any effect on his readiness for spring training next March. The procedure was carried out by Dr. Mark Belsky, who performed a similar operation on Reddick's left wrist back in 2011.

Reddick, 26, was hampered by wrist woes all season. Sprains of his right wrist forced him to the disabled list on two separate occasions, which may have been a reason for his down year at the plate.

The hirsute right fielder’s breakout season in 2012 was a huge part of the A’s success last year, but the club succeeded in spite of him in 2013. Reddick batted just .226/.307/.379 with 12 home runs in 114 games for Oakland this season, cutting his home run rate from last year nearly in half.

Reddick is headed for his first go at arbitration this winter, so he’ll likely earn a hefty raise if he can prove to the club that he’s healthy. The A’s have Reddick under team control through the 2016 season.
