Cardinals vs. Red Sox World Series Game 6 score update: St. Louis, Boston scoreless through 2 innings

Both teams squandered scoring opportunities in the second inning.

Jamie Squire

The St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox are scoreless through two innings in Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday. Both teams had multiple runners on base in an inning but failed to get one to the plate.

After going down in order in the first, the Cards threatened against Red Sox starter John Lackey in the second. Allen Craig hit a long single off the Green Monster and Yadier Molina followed with a base-hit, putting two on with nobody out in the inning. Lackey recovered to retire the next three hitters, including Jon Jay on a strikeout with runners on second and third to end the inning.

Cardinals starter Michael Wacha worked around a walk to David Ortiz in the first inning before running into some trouble in the second. He allowed a lead-off single to Jonny Gomes before walking Shane Victorino, putting himself in an identical position to that of Lackey.

Wacha rebounded by inducing pop-outs from Xander Bogaerts and Stephen Drew before striking out David Ross to end the threat.
