Cardinals vs. Red Sox World Series Game 6 score update: Boston leads, 3-0, after 3 innings

Shane Victorino almost had another huge grand slam, but had to settle for a mere three-run double.

Shane Victorino hit a bases-clearing double with two outs in the bottom of the third inning to give the Boston Red Sox a 3-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Cardinals starter Michael Wacha loaded the bases by plunking Jonny Gomes with two outs after surrendering a lead-off single to Jacoby Ellsbury and intentionally walking David Ortiz, who now has a .773 on-base percentage in the series after walking twice. Wacha then fell behind Victorino, 2-0, and with nowhere to put him, left a 2-1 fastball over the middle of the plate.

Victorino came only a few feet away from hitting his second iconic grand slam of the postseason. Gomes scored the third run with a nifty slide eluding Yadier Molina at the plate.

Wacha has walked three and allowed three hits. He has four strikeouts. Red Sox starter John Lackey has a pair of strikeouts while allowing three hits through three scoreless innings.
