Cardinals vs. Red Sox World Series Game 6 score update: Boston remains on top, 6-0

The Red Sox are three innings away from their eighth championship.

The Boston Red Sox hold a 6-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals after six innings in Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Red Sox starter John Lackey has responded to the strong run support provided by his offense with six shutout innings. He's allowed six hits and struck out four. Lackey failed to outduel Cardinals rookie Michael Wacha in Game 2, but pitched circles around the 22-year-old on Wednesday. Wacha surrendered six runs on five hits and four walks in 3⅔ innings.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz got his first real opportunity to hit in the sixth inning after walking in his first three plate appearances. Ortiz struck out against Cards reliever Kevin Siegrist, marking the first time he's punched out since Game 2 of the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers, a span of nine games and 41 plate appearances.

Ortiz has struck out only five times and has drawn 13 walks in 58 career World Series plate appearances.
