Cardinals vs. Red Sox, 2013 World Series Game 6 final score: Boston tops St. Louis, 6-1; wins 8th title

The Boston Red Sox jumped all over St. Louis Cardinals' pitching early in Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday and coasted to a 6-1 victory, giving the team its third championship in 10 years.

After squandering a two-on, no-out situation in the second inning, the Red Sox loaded the bases with two outs in the third. Shane Victorino, who is no stranger to bases-loaded success, crushed a 2-1 fastball from Cardinals starter Michael Wacha high off the Green Monster to clear the bags and give the Sox a 3-0 lead.

The hit gave Victorino 19 bases-loaded RBI in his postseason career, and the 32-year-old outfielder added one more to that total with a two-out hit in the following inning. That came after Stephen Drew led off with a solo home run off of Wacha to break a 4-for-51 postseason slump and Mike Napoli added a run-scoring hit following the departure of the Cardinals' 22-year-old rookie.

Red Sox starter John Lackey got revenge on the Cardinals after being saddled with the loss in Game 2. Lackey was pulled with two outs in the seventh inning, but not before notching five strikeouts and surrendering only one run to the same team that hit him with three just six days earlier.

David Ortiz went without a hit for the first time in the series but drew four walks -- three intentional -- and scored a pair of runs. He finished the series hitting .688/.760/1.188 and reached base more times than any other player in a six-game World Series in MLB history.

Victorino, Drew and Ellsbury paced the Red Sox offense with two hits apiece. Cardinals second baseman Matt Carpenter led all players with three hits and outfielder Carlos Beltran knocked in the team's only run.
