Cardinals vs. Red Sox, World Series Game 6 GIF recap: Boston finally celebrates a title at home

The party that ensued at Fenway Park after the Red Sox took down the Cardinals in Game 6 of the World Series was a long time coming.

The Boston Red Sox won two World Series titles in the last decade, but both championships were clinched on the road. In fact, the Sox hadn't celebrated the greatest achievement in baseball in their home park in 95 years, but that all changed on Wednesday in a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the 2013 World Series.

Shane Victorino got the party started with a bases-clearing double off of Cardinals rookie hurler Michael Wacha, whose run of postseason dominance ended swiftly and painfully at the hands of a persistent Red Sox offense.

Boston didn't waste much time adding on to its early lead. Stephen Drew, who fell to 4-for-51 at the plate in the postseason with a second-inning pop out, launched a first-pitch fastball from Wacha into the Red Sox bullpen to lead off the fourth.

If it wasn’t already Boston’s night, it certainly was after that.

Red Sox starter John Lackey kept the Cardinals' offense off the board until the seventh inning, when he departed with two outs and a six-run lead. Boston's bullpen held serve, and closer Koji Uehara capped off a dominant postseason with a series-clinching strikeout of Matt Carpenter.

Oh look, it’s the guard! But with kind of a mild celebration, all things considered:

We now interrupt the regularly scheduled partying to show you sad Mike Matheny:

Okay, enough of that ... back to the rager!

Somebody needs to get Mike Napoli or David Ross or Dustin Pedroia or whichever bearded maniac that is some goggles. Also, who thought it was even possible for Clay Buchholz to get more wet than he already was?

Never change, Red Sox. Never change.
