The Red Sox and Rays opened up their iteration of the ALDS today, and the Rays are up 2-0 in the fourth thanks to a pair of solo homers. Sean Rodriguez went deep in the second inning, and Ben Zobrist followed that up with a shot in the top of the fourth.
Red Sox vs. Rays score: Rays go up 2-0 on solo homers
Rodriguez’s homer was a bit controversial, as Lester threw what looked to be strike three -- and even walked off the mound -- but it was called a ball. He threw a strike with the next pitch on a 3-2 count, and Rodriguez took it over the Green Monster in left to put the Rays up 1-0.
Zobrist’s blast was also over the wall in left, but the only question surrounding that one had to do with whether it would go fair or foul. Sadly for the Red Sox, it was the former.
Rays' starter Matt Moore has held the Red Sox scoreless through three frames, but has already thrown 53 pitches while walking a batter and hitting another. Lester, aside from the homers, has looked good with four strikeouts against one free pass.
