Red Sox vs. Rays score: Boston charges back, takes 5-2 lead

A big 4th inning has put the Red Sox in front of Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Rays were rolling along in the first game of their ALDS against Boston, but things have turned around very quickly. Dustin Pedroia led off the 4th inning with a single (the first hit of the game off of starter

Matt Moore), and then David Ortiz hit what should have been a routine flyout to Wil Myers in center field...

Rays sportscaster Barry LeBrock with the explanation of what happened there:

The stage was now set for a big inning, and Boston delivered just that. Jonny Gomes came just inches away from a home run, settling instead for a two-run double off the top of the Monster:

With two outs and Gomes on second, Stephen Drew hit a grounder to the right side and beat Moore to the base for an infield single. Gomes managed to score on the play, marking the second major miscue of the inning by the Rays. After Will Middlebrooks doubled in Drew, the Rays made another whoopsie by allowing Jacoby Ellsbury to reach on a passed ball strike three. Boston capitalized yet again, as Shane Victorino singled in the fifth run of the inning.
