Mike Napoli is not known for his baserunning, but the bearded man who hits dingers like he's playing beer-league softball showed off some moves in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Rays. Napoli slid into second by angling himself at full speed into a sideways slide, where his hand avoids the tag and touches second.
Mike Napoli and his beard slide into second
A nifty baserunning move by one of the last guys you would expect to see one from.
Now, there are some interesting questions raised by this nifty slide, and WEEI’s Alex Speier, as he so often is, is on the case:
If Napoli's beard had touched second before the tag, would he have been safe? If his beard had been tagged . . .

You can pull hair in the NFL in order to tackle still, right? At the least, it was allowed in the past. Does baseball have any beard equivalent for tagging? If you’re hit by a pitch in the beard, but only the beard, is it a HBP? We need answers, baseball!
