Max Scherzer has 10 strikeouts through six shutout innings to help the Detroit Tigers hold on to a 3-0 lead over the Oakland Athletics in Game 1 of the American League Division Series on Friday.
2013 ALDS Game 1, Tigers vs. Athletics score update: Detroit retains 3-0 lead
Early offense and a dominant performance by Max Scherzer have the Tigers three innings away from stealing home field advantage.

Scherzer struck out the side in the fourth inning and has allowed only one hit -- a second-inning triple off the bat of Yoenis Cespedes -- and a pair of walks. The opposing starter, Bartolo Colon, has done a fine job of recovering from a three-run first inning.
The Tigers' bats were silenced until the sixth, when Colon allowed consecutive singles to Victor Martinez, Alex Avila and Omar Infante. However, Martinez was thrown out by A's outfielder Josh Reddick while trying to score on Infante's hit, and Detroit's rally ended without a run when Andy Dirks popped out in the next at-bat.
Martinez and Avila lead the Tigers with two hits apiece. Avila and Miguel Cabrera are responsible for two of Detroit's RBI. The other run scored when Prince Fielder grounded into a double play after the Tigers' first three batters of the game reached base.
Detroit has outhit Oakland so far, 10-1.
