Major League Baseball is looking into comments made last week by Los Angeles Dodgers' part-owner Magic Johnson about free agent to-be Robinson Cano, reports ESPN.com.

Johnson talked Thursday about Cano’s impending free agency, saying, “Though I can’t talk about it, [Cano] is going to get paid. Not by us, but he’s going to get paid. Hey, when you’re a superstar, you get paid.”
Though seemingly innocuous, that comment goes against MLB's request that General Managers not discuss future free agents until they officially are on the market. The league is attempting to limit how a team's comments affect a player's market value. Cano can not file for free agency until after the World Series.
Johnson also hinted that the reason for the team's lack of interest in Cano is the necessity for re-signing their own players, including Clayton Kershaw and Hanley Ramirez.
The MLB will reportedly follow-up with appropriate measures against Johnson. Given the nature of his comments, that is likely to mean a brief reminder about the improper nature of commenting on another team’s players before they hit free agency.
