Cuban infielder Alex Guerrero seeking 4-year deal

Guerrero had agreed to a contract with the Dodgers, but has renewed his search in free agency after that deal fell through.

Cuban infielder Alex Guerrero is seeking a four year contract to sign with an MLB team, though some interested clubs would prefer to go longer, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Guerrero defected from Cuba in January 2013 and has been looking to latch on in the MLB. The Dodgers had reportedly agreed to a five year, $32 million contract with him but those talks fell through. It has been rumored that Guerrero now wants a better overall contract than what the Dodgers offered.

The 26-year-old decided to not play in the Cuban Serie Nacional league for their 2012-13 season citing lack of motivation. Factoring into that decision was his disappointment in not being named to the final roster for the national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Heyman notes that the Dodgers, Giants, Rangers, Reds and Red Sox all remain interested in signing Guerrero. He would likely play second base in the MLB, but could still be a shortstop.

Guerrero hit .310/.400/.599 during the 2011-12 Cuban season and has socked 60 home runs in 866 at-bats in the last three seasons he played.
