Indians hoping to re-sign Jason Giambi

Both Giambi and the Indians enjoyed his time with the team in 2013.

Cleveland Indians general manager Chris Antonetti and manager Terry Francona said Monday they would like to bring Jason Giambi back for another season, reports CBS Cleveland.

Francona says the team would welcome back Giambi as long as he would like to play for the Indians. The interest appears to be mutual. Giambi said last week that he would like to come back to Cleveland to play one more season.

“I feel great, I would love to be a part of this,” Giambi told reporters. “I love the direction they are going.”

The Indians have been so pleased with Giambi in his one season with the team that they would like to keep him in the organization after his playing days are over. Antonetti says the team could possibly find a coaching position for Giambi once he calls it a career.

Giambi, 42, played in 78 games as a designated hitter and pinch hitter for the Indians in 2013. He hit .183 with a 653 OPS and nine home runs. He spent the last four years with the Rockies. He made $750,000 with the Indians this season.
