Yankees free agency rumors: New York discussing Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Garza and Stephen Drew

The Yankees, per usual, have an interest in a number of expensive free agents.

The New York Yankees have added three more players on their potential free agent wishlist: outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury, starting pitcher Matt Garza and shortstop Stephen Drew, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

The Yankees have already been linked to high-priced free agents Carlos Beltran, Shin-Soo Choo, Brian McCann and international free agent Masahiro Tanaka. The club is hoping to cut their payroll from $230 million to below $189 million, but have already shed around $80 million from 2012 contracts thanks to retirements and their own free agents, according to Heyman.

A potential Ellsbury signing would send shockwaves through the AL East; the outfielder has been in the Boston Red Sox organization since the team selected him the first round of the 2005 draft. Ellsbury turned in an impressive 2013 campaign, batting .298/.355/.426 while leading MLB with 52 stolen bases.

Heyman notes that Drew is an interesting target, since Derek Jeter is expected to return to the Yankees. Jeter has not officially decided to pick up his $9.5 million option for next season.
