The Detroit Tigers are open to trading either Max Scherzer or Rick Porcello, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The team has an abundance of quality starting pitching, as well as a large payroll, and they might be willing to move one of those hurlers to address other needs on the roster if the price is right.

Although the team is floating Scherzer’s name on the trading block, it comes with the implication that they are merely listening to offers on him rather than actively shopping him. Although the two sides are not currently working on a contract extension, the probable Cy Young winner is still under team control for 2014 and it would require a hefty return to pry him from Detroit.

If no one offers the moon for Scherzer, then Porcello would be a more realistic target. The right-hander was the subject of trade rumors last winter, but ended up staying with the Tigers. He appeared in 32 games (29 starts) in 2013, going 13-8 with a 4.32 ERA. He also appeared in two postseason games last month, but failed to record an out in either game and allowed hits to all three batters he faced.
