Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has been named the American League Most Valuable Player most the second straight year by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

It was a great day when the Tigers announced they were moving Miguel Cabrera back to third base. So many jokes. So, so many jokes. But was it a good move? Cabrera followed his Triple Crown-winning 2012 season by posting even better numbers for the AL Central champions in 2013. Cabrera hit .348/.442/.636, leading the league in all three categories. He was voted into his eighth All-Star Game and secured his fifth Silver Slugger award.
Cabrera is the AL's first back-to-back MVP winner since Frank Thomas, who won the award in 1993 and 1994 while with the Chicago White Sox. Cabrera's consecutive honors, combined with Justin Verlander's victory in 2011, gives the Tigers three consecutive MVP winners. They're the first AL team to produce three straight winners in that category since the New York Yankees in 1960 through 1963.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout was the runner-up behind Cabrera for the second straight year. Trout hit .323/.432/.557. Trout received five first-place votes and 19 second-place votes.
First baseman Chris Davis of the Baltimore Orioles finished third. He and Oakland Athletics third baseman Josh Donaldson each received a first-place vote.
Of course, not everyone agreed with the vote.
