Eric Young Sr. is the leading candidate to fill the Colorado Rockies' vacant first base coach position, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post.

A retired second baseman and outfielder, Young spent four and a half seasons in Colorado. In fact, he was one of the original Rockies as the team’s sixth pick in the expansion draft when the franchise was formed in 1993. He led the team with 42 stolen bases during its inaugural season. In his time with the Rockies, he stole a total of 180 bags while hitting .295/.378/.412.
The Young family has another connection to the Rockies, as well. Eric Young Jr. was drafted by Colorado in the 30th round of the 2003 draft and, like his dad, played four and a half seasons there. He hit for a .671 OPS and stole 70 bases before being traded to the Mets mid-2013.
Though he has not played in the majors since 2006, the elder Young retired as a Rockie in September 2008. He also has coaching experience, having held the first base coaching job for the Diamondbacks from 2010 to 2012. He has also acted as a roving minor league instructor for the Astros.
