Yuniesky Betancourt free agency: Infielder drawing interest from 5 teams

Betancourt primarily first and third base with the Brewers in 2013, but is capable of playing all over the infield.

The agent for Yuniesky Betancourt says the free agent infielder has already seen interest from five teams this offseason, reports Ben Nicholson-Smith of USA Today.

None of the five teams are named, though they are reportedly interested in Betancourt as a third or second baseman. A shortstop for most of his career, Betancourt has been moving all over the infield the past couple seasons.

Betancourt, 31, was among the worst players in the MLB in 2013, hitting .212/.240/.355 with 13 home runs over 137 games with the Brewers in 2013. Nearly all of those games were played at first base and third base. According to Fangraphs, he was worth -1.8 WAR last year, one year after posting a -1.0 WAR with the Royals.

The Phillies originally signed Betancourt to a minor league deal for the 2013 season, but released him during spring training. He was picked up by Milwaukee, who gave him $900,000 on a one-year contract.
