Braves new stadium will have 2,500 fewer parking spaces than Turner Field

One of the reasons the Braves wanted to move was because Turner Field did not have enough parking.

The new stadium the Atlanta Braves are planning to build will feature around 2,500 fewer parking spaces than Turner Field currently has, according to Field of Schemes.

Turner Field has 8,500 devoted parking spaces for Braves fans at the moment. The proposed Cobb County stadium is expected to have around 6,000 parking spaces. However, one of the organizations reasons for the move to a new field was that Turner Field has “inadequate” parking for the team’s fan base.

Instead of additional parking, the Braves released a plan featuring “a system of golf-like trams” that will assist in bringing fans to the ballpark. These trams will pick up from other locations in the area, including hotels, the Cobb Galleria Centre and other parking lots. While there appears to be room to expand parking around the stadium, the Braves are not using it for that purpose in order to preserve it for planned development in the future.

The Braves are expected to move to the new stadium in 2017. Turner Field will be demolished after the team vacates the park.
