Van Slyke played for 13 seasons, mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates (where he was a teammate of McClendon's) and St. Louis Cardinals. The outfielder was a three-time All-Star who hit 164 home runs and stole 245 bases at an 80.6 percent success rate during his career.
The only members of previous manager Eric Wedge's staff who are being retained in their previous positions are bullpen catcher Jason Phillips and left-handed batting-practice pitcher Scott Budner, reports Johns.
