Home of Mariners P Felix Hernandez catches fire

King Felix’s Seattle-area castle started on fire on Monday. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.

Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

The home of Seattle Mariners star pitcher Felix Hernandez caught fire on Monday, according to KIRO-TV in Seattle. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, which started in Hernandez's empty home in Bellevue, Wash., shortly after 3 p.m. PT.

The cause of the fire to the $2.85 million house is unclear, per KIRO. Firefighters from Bellevue and two nearby cities were called upon to extinguish the blaze.

In 2010, Hernandez purchased the home, which was built a year earlier, for $3.2 million, according to property records obtained by KIRO. That was the same year in which Hernandez won the American League Cy Young Award and signed his first sizable contract, a five-year, $78 million deal. The four-time AL All-Star has since been inked to a seven-year, $175 million extension.
