MLB news: 2014 options for Juan Carlos Oviedo, Alexi Casilla declined

Juan Carlos Oviedo and Alexi Casilla are free agents after having their options declined by their respective clubs.

USA TODAY Sports

Decisions have been made on the final pair of players whose contract option status for 2014 remained up in the air.

The Tampa Bay Rays have declined relief pitcher Juan Carlos Oviedo's option, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Elsewhere in the American League East, the Baltimore Orioles have elected not to exercise the option for infielder Alexi Casilla, per MASNsports.com's Roch Kubatko.

Oviedo, who was previously known as Leo Nunez until the 2012 season, has not pitched in the big leagues since 2011 when he posted a 4.06 ERA while saving 36 games for the Marlins. He appeared in only three minor-league games in the following season while with the Marlins organization before undergoing Tommy John surgery in September of 2012.

Casilla has been below average, in terms of OPS+, at the plate in six of his eight big-league seasons, including in 2013, when he hit .214/.268/.295 in 125 plate appearances for the Orioles.
