MLB announces 2013 Defensive Player of the Year winners

Wilson apparently has its own award to rival Rawlings’ Gold Gloves. Learn something new every day.

Major League Baseball has announced the winners of the 2013 Defensive Player of the Year awards, equipment-maker Wilson’s annual complement to the Gold Glove ceremony.

The Defensive Player of the Year awards are divvied up a little differently than Rawlings’ Gold Gloves. Instead of coming down to the best defender at each position in both leagues, Wilson hands out its award to one player on every team. As such, there’s a whole lot of up-the-middle guys among the winners, not so many first basemen (read: none).

Some of Wilson's choices are... umm.. interesting (see: Angels), but most of the winners are the guys you'd expect to earn an award for their defensive abilities. In addition to the team-by-team awards, there is also an ultimate Defensive Player of the Year for both leagues and a best defensive team.
